Brooks Graham

Technical Director

My Story

While nominally a Silicon Valley tech nerd, Brooks has a background in audio and film/video production dating back to the 1980s.  It all started with a short introductory apprenticeship at a large recording studio in Seattle.  Brooks used that grounding in analog audio engineering in the next decade by providing sound services at large and small house of worship settings, working with musicians and speakers to sound their best.

College brought the obligatory DJ experience.  Enough said about that.

Although Brooks pursued a career in tech, he kept active in several aspects of media production.  In 2002, Brooks co-produced the award-winning Q. Allan Brocka film, Roberta Loved.   Now bitten by the filmmaking bug, Brooks created a sideline business providing corporate media services and for fun, participated in the annual San Francisco 48 Hour Film Project. Motivated by a keen desire to reduce travel time to/from San Francisco, Brooks convinced the 48 Hour Film Project leadership to add San Jose, California to their annual calendar.  As punishment for this, Brooks served as the San Jose 48 Hour Film Project City Producer for the first handful of years before handing it off to an able crew and returning to being a mere participant in creating short films working as DP and editor.

In recent years, Brooks has worked as a content creator for multiple tech firms.  Brooks has created animated explainer videos, live online new-hire orientation sessions, and in response to the global pandemic, hosted an interview podcast series for a corporate sales force. For each of these, Brooks utilized his skills in audio/video recording and editing - as well as performing most of the voice work.

Brooks was introduced to the Miss Smith Presents studio through Erik Gullickson.  Seeing a need to help Miss Smith transition from live concert performances to online live-streaming due to the pandemic, Brooks set up a three-camera video streaming system and has been providing audio and video production services for Miss Smith ever since.

Brooks is proud to be a part of the Newport Performing Arts Festival.
